Chris Shain Portraits Feature Within The Margaret Olley Art Centre

In 2006, Images for Business Founder and Director Chris Shain was commissioned to photograph Margaret Olley AC in her Paddington Studio. Olley is Australia’s most celebrated painter of still life and interiors. She sadly passed away at home in 2011.

Margaret Olley had previously been the subject of many painted and photographic portraits including Ben Quilty’s 2011 Archibald Prize. However, Chris’ photographs were some of the only professional pictures of her at work in her studio.

In 2014, The Tweed Regional Gallery opened the Margaret Olley Art Centre. The most striking feature of the centre is the recreation of areas of Olley’s famous home studio, principally the Hat Factory and the Yellow Room.

The recreation features original architectural elements such as windows and doors, relocated from the Paddington studio. The interiors are filled with over 20,000 items Olley collected over many years as subject matter for her paintings.

Images for Business is very proud of the fact that these images are now part of the collection.
