Timelapse: Documenting installation of Sol LeWitt mural at Art Gallery NSW

The Art Gallery of NSW recently engaged Images for Business to provide time-lapse video services to document the installation of Sol LeWitt’s Wall drawing #955, Loopy Doopy (red and purple). The enormous mural is currently installed in the Kaldor Hall on the ground level of the gallery’s South Building.

Because the Art Gallery of NSW is open to the public during the day, extra safety measures were required during the set-up process of the time-lapse equipment. The video equipment couldn’t occupy any floor space, so the Images for Business team used scaffolding and safety tethers to suspend it from the ceiling. Rubber and nylon straps were used in the installation to prevent any damage.

“To ensure safety, the time-lapse camera had to be fitted with a scissor lift before opening hours,” said Images for Business time-lapse specialist and videographer Toby Shain. “The safety of the team installing the mural and the gallery visitors was our main priority. Our experience in safety and operational compliance helped reduce risk across every stage of this project.”

The striking mural adorns the entryway of the Sol LeWitt exhibition, which runs until 12 February 2023. For more information, visit the Art Gallery of NSW website.
